Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD)

The purpose of the state PSD program is to implement the Federal Clean Air Act requirements for the prevention of significant deterioration of air quality.  These insure that the permitting of proposed new industrial facilities and the associated economic growth will occur in a manner consistent with the preservation of clean air resources.

The program provides for special emphasis on implementation of best available control technology, protection of scenic areas such as national parks, and informed public participation.
