DEP has created a Clean Diesel Rebate Program to help owners of Class 8 on-road commercial heavy-duty diesel trucks model year 2006 or older comply with the Idling Reduction Rule.
Through this rebate program DEP is encouraging owners to consider auxiliary power units (APUs) for comfort and electrical power in the sleeper berth instead of idling the truck’s main engine during rest stops. Owners who install and properly operate APUs can reduce fuel use and tailpipe emissions by about 80%.
Starting March 15, 2009, owners of eligible vehicles, can apply for up to three rebates ($1,500 for 1 vehicle up to $4,500 for 3 vehicles) for the purchase and installation of APU(s) in calendar year 2009. Since funding for this program is limited, rebates will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, and continue while rebate funds are still available.
Rebate funds are currently available.
