Teleconference and Telecomute

  • Teleconferencing is the holding of a conference among people remote from one another by means of telecommunication devices (such as telephones or computer terminals).  Teleconferencing eliminates travel time and expense and permits flexible scheduling.  Some types of teleconferencing are:
Teleconference graphic
  • Audio conferencing. The simplest and least-costly of teleconferencing systems. It consists of an audio-only configuration in which two or more groups or three or more individuals at separate locations exchange verbal information with each other using either conference calls and/or amplified telephone speaker devices (speakerphones).
 
  • Business television. A type of teleconferencing system which involves the transmission of one-way television signals from a central site to one or more sites.
 
  • Computer conferencing. The electronic means of sending, viewing, and sharing real-time communications in areas of common interest by using a computer keyboard.
Telecommuting graphic
  • Telecommute is the practice of working at a location other than the normal workplace and communicating with your fellow workers through the phone, typically with a computer and modem.
