The Drinking Water Section (also known as Potable
Water) is responsible for regulating
approximately 1,385
public water systems under the Safe Drinking Water
Act. Inspections, permitting and enforcement
activities ensure the safety, health and welfare of
the public. The Central District is responsible for
public water systems in 7 counties (Brevard, Indian
River, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole).
Volusia County Water Systems are regulated by the
Volusia County Health Department under a delegation
agreement with the Department.

Compliance and Monitoring
Staff members conduct inspections and evaluate chemical and
bacteriological water quality, proper operation and maintenance protocol, and determine if facilities have sufficient capacity for their demand.
When facilities are not in compliance with applicable requirements, appropriate civil and/or criminal
action is initiated to correct problems.
