Storage Tanks and Petroleum Cleanup

In 1983, Florida was one of the first states in the union to pass legislation, adopt rules, and develop a program for the regulation of underground and aboveground storage tank systems.

 

Responsibilities of the Section include:

Compliance Assurance

  • Underground and aboveground storage tank compliance

  • Enforcement for non-compliant facilities that have been referred by contracted counties

  • Contract management and auditing of compliance contracts

Petroleum cleanup management (Chapter 62-770, F.A.C.) for sites not eligible for state-funded cleanup in Lake and Marion Counties.

 


Do I Need to Register My Storage Tank?

Storage tanks must be registered if the tank is:

  • Aboveground and larger than 550 gallons

  • or Underground and larger than 110 gallons

  • And if the tank stores pollutants, hazardous substances, and/or mineral acids
