National Marina Day August 9, 2008

Please join the Clean Marina Program, the National Marine Manufacturers Association and the Association of Marine Industries in celebrating National Marina Day, Saturday, August 9, 2007.

This National Day of Recognition is dedicated to the education of the boating public, civic leaders, and politicians. The day emphasizes the importance of the marine industry as a link to water access through local marinas, as well as their stewardship of the environment.

Please contact one of the marinas listed, or your local marina, to learn what is planned for your community. Also, visit the national websites listed to find out more about National Marina Day across the country.

Amelia Island Yacht Basin is participating in National Marina Day and their event continues to grow. As you will see from the attachments (Pages 1– 5), they hope to draw even more visitors from the community this year by celebrating National Marina Day. Some events include: the Trey Durrance Leukemia Benefit and Bike Run, along with the Amelia Island Sailing Club Poker Run. AIYB yacht brokers, service representatives and vendors will be represented, as well as the U.S. Coast Guard and the Nassau County Sheriff’s Department. The event will be well advertised in the local Fernandina News Leader, The Prop Wash (AIYB newsletter) and on the AIYB website.

City of Hollywood Marina will be hosting a “Cardboard Boat Race” at the marina. The facility will have entertainment, hotdogs, and beverages starting at 12:00 noon. The Cardboard Boat Race starts at 1:00 pm.

City of Miami is having a nice NMD celebration at Miamarina (for all 3 city marinas: ) they will be hosting their NMD fishing tournament for the second year. Net proceeds from their NMD event will benefit the Youth Fishing Foundation and Miami Police Athletic League. The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary will be on hand. Fishermen’s Village Yacht Basin will be participating in National Marina Day festivities from 10 am-4 pm. This year's theme: "Environmental Stewardship of Charlotte Harbor." Visit with local, state and national organizations who are stakeholders in Charlotte County and its aquatic and terrestrial environment. Jam band performs top 40 and variety music, 5-9 pm, Center Stage.

The marina will be hosting a party and will provide music, food, and fun from noon to 4:00 pm. Gene Quinn of Pinellas County, a member of the Clean Boating Partnership, will set a Clean Marina booth with Clean Boating educational & outreach information. Other agencies such as NOAA and FWC will also be attending and to provide educational materials to the public.
