Coquina in a tidal pool

Ocean to Estuary Walk: Come and learn about the variety of habitats found between the ocean and the estuary. The guided tour will take you from the beach, over the dunes, deep into the maritime hammock and out into the salt marsh.

Salt Marsh Exploration: Explore the most productive natural habitat on the planet. Discover the interconnectedness between the salt marsh plants and animals, measure elevation changes along a transect, and examine plant and animal abundance with regard to elevation.

Beach Exploration for Elementary School: Students work in small groups to explore the beach environment. Through sorting activity, they learn to distinguish between once living (biotic) and never living (abiotic) objects.

Beach Walk: (All ages) Explore the Living Coast. Students will comb the beach for shells and other sea life. Afterwards, we will examine and identify the items found on the beach followed by a slide show.

Fun with Fish: Adaptation and Art: Enjoy a wonderful printing adventure. Learn the art of gyotaku (that's Japanese for "Fish Print") by using real and rubber fish, rolling it with paint and applying it to paper or clothing. This class will stimulate discussions about the different shapes of fish and what that can tell us about how the fish moves, what it eats and where in the water column it would live.

Additional topics are available upon request. Adult programs are also available.
