Florida Renewable Energy and Energy-Efficient
Technologies Grants Program
The Florida Energy and Climate Protection Act
established the Renewable Energy and Energy-Efficient
Technologies Grants Program to provide matching grants
for demonstration, commercialization, research and
development projects relating to renewable energy
technologies and innovative technologies that
significantly increase energy efficiency for vehicles
and commercial buildings. The grant program is designed
to stimulate capital investment in the state and promote
and enhance the statewide utilization of renewable
energy and energy-efficient technologies.
The 2008 Florida Legislature appropriated $15 million
in grant funding. Two separate Requests for Grant
Proposals have been issued. The first solicitation makes
available $7 million to support projects that generate
or utilize renewable energy resources, including
hydrogen, biomass, solar energy, geothermal energy, wind
energy, ocean energy, waste heat and hydroelectric
power. The second solicitation provides $8 million in
grant funding for bioenergy projects. Both programs can
include innovative technologies that significantly
increase energy efficiency for vehicles and commercial
buildings.
Grant funds are available to Florida municipalities
and county governments, established for-profit companies
licensed to do business in Florida, universities and
colleges in Florida, utilities located and operating
within Florida, not-for-profit organizations, and State
of Florida agencies.
