The
DEP/FGS are participating in this year’s Hydrogeology
Consortium’s short course and field trip focusing on ground
water flow and interaction with surface waters in karstic
watersheds - December 5-6, 2006, from 8:00am until
5:00pm.
The combination lecture/ field trip will use the Woodville
Karst Plain (WKP) as a representative watershed/springshed
for demonstrating the dynamic of ground water flow and
possible contamination of ground water and springs in such
settings. The WKP and Wakulla Spring system have been the
sites for extensive research activities by the Florida
Geological Survey, the USGS and FSU for several years. These
research projects, and the data obtained so far, will
illustrate not only the complexity of water flow and
resource degradation in such settings but also what can be
done to limit degradation by providing the regulatory
community with the scientific tools to use in conserving and
protecting these natural systems.
Scientists, engineers, resource managers and regulatory
field personnel will benefit from participating in this
event that was heavily attended last year. Please contact

and other logistics.
