Lithologic Database
The Florida Geological
Survey (FGS) lithologic database contains more than 5,000 lithologic
descriptions of cores and cuttings from wells located throughout Florida.
These descriptions are coded and stored in ASCII files by county. The
self-extracting file, LITHPROG.EXE, contains a program (FGSLOGS.EXE) that
will decode and print coded descriptions.
This page provides
information about downloading the self-extracting files containing the
program and data.
The
FGSLOGS Program
This is a DOS
application. LITHPROG.EXE contains the program file FGSLOGS.EXE and
an ASCII-format user manual (FGSLOGS.TXT). To unfold any of the
self-extracting files (*.EXE), download the file, and double click on the
file name.
PLEASE READ FGSLOGS.TXT PRIOR TO RUNNING
FGSLOGS.EXE
The
Data Files
The data files (*.DAT)
are stored in compressed files grouped by region. Each region corresponds
to all counties located within the State's five Water Management
Districts. Some counties are found in more than one compressed file,
however, there is no difference in the *.DAT file for duplicated counties
(i.e., ALACHUA.DAT in SRWMD.ZIP is the same as ALACHUA.DAT in SJRWMD.ZIP).
The following is a directory of data files compressed within each *.ZIP
file. Click on the file name to download the file:

Tips
and Tricks for the
FGSLOGS
Lithologic Database Program
- All program and data
files must reside in the same folder on your hard drive. Create a folder
for these before you download, or transfer the files into their own folder
after they are downloaded.
- The folder you create
(in Step 1, above) must be no more than 8 characters long (the old DOS
restriction)
- All data files must be
extracted from the zipped archive file (*.zip) before the program will
recognize them. Be sure and extract them into the same folder as the
program files.
- When the program is
launched, it will first ask for the path for the data files. Be sure and
include a backslash (\ ) after the folder name where the data files
reside. The program will not accept the path name without that last
backslash
Example: Path: C:\Litholog\
