Blackwater River/Royal Palm Hammock Creek Canoe Trail
The Blackwater River/Royal Palm Hammock Creek Canoe Trail is officially designated as part of Florida’s Statewide System of Greenways and Trails. This loop trail takes visitors through Collier-Seminole State Park. The pristine tropical habitats are characteristic of the Everglades region. The trail passes through hardwood hammocks that contain the rare Florida royal palm, as well as through large stands of white mangroves, and salt marshes. A wide variety of wildlife is found here including osprey, wood stork, brown pelican, black bear, and the Florida panther. This is a good beginner’s trail and it will give you a glimpse of how this habitat appeared a thousand years ago.
