Oscar Scherer State Park Trails
Oscar Scherer State Park is officially designated as part of Florida’s Statewide System of Greenways and Trails. This park is located just outside of Sarasota and offers several miles of recreational opportunities for hikers and bikers. Trails meander through the park’s two distinct plant communities, pine and scrubby flatwoods. The park is particularly noted for its population of Florida Scrub-Jays, which are a threatened species. Opportunities to camp and canoe also await at Oscar Scherer to complement your trail adventure.

Notes:
Hikers and mountain bikers share the unpaved trails in the park with the exception of Lester Finley Trail and the South Creek Nature Trail which are reserved for hiking.

The Friends of Oscar Scherer State Park citizen support organization has created a detailed map with the distances and estimated walking times for the unpaved trail’s various segments. Numbered benches placed along the trails provide resting spots and help visitors determine their exact location on the trail map. Be sure to pick up a copy at the entrance station of the park. Keep in mind that there are no restrooms or shelters on the trail.

Access/Directions:
From Sarasota, take US 41 six miles south to the park entrance which will be on the left.

From I-75, heading south, take Exit 36 (new Exit 200) to Hwy 681. Head west on Hwy 681 to US 41. Turn right on US 41 and park entrance will come up on right.

From I-75, heading north, take Exit 35A (new Exit 195 to Laurel Road. Head west on Laurel Road to US 41. Take a right on US 41 and park entrance will come up on right.
