Staying Safe: Getting to Zero Injuries

The DEP Division of Law Enforcement is a proud member of the DEP Safety Culture and the proud winner of the 2006 “Best Safety Training Program” award given by the Dept. of Financial Services, Division of Risk Management, Interagency Council on Loss Control.

The DEP Safety Culture is dedicated to making everyday behavior safe behavior - not just avoiding injuries during specific tasks.  Even though law enforcement and emergency response activities are sometimes hazardous, the division has adopted the DEP Safety Culture Goal of ZERO INJURIES! Meeting this goal requires knowing the risks and either eliminating them or performing risky tasks safely.

Accomplishing ZERO INJURIES requires that employees be personally accountable for their own safety. Supervisors help members to identify task hazards through job safety analysis and training. The Training Center, in cooperation with the DEP Office of Safety and Loss Control provides safety training for members and supervisors. The division’s Safety Culture begins with Senior Management commitment, and ends with a commitment to safety by each member of the division. A Safety Advisory Committee representing each of the bureaus helps foster teamwork and promotes safety among the staff. By working together, ZERO INJURIES is an attainable goal!
