  1. Do you hire those applicants who are Military Police or possess a law enforcement certification in another state?

  2. You must possess a Florida Law Enforcement Certification to meet our minimum requirements.  For information regarding the Equivalency for Certification for those applicants with training and experience from either the federal government or another state, visit the Florida Department of Law Enforcement website at http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/cjst/officerrequirements/equivalency.html

  3. Do you have to be a certified law enforcement officer in the State of Florida to apply?

  4. You must have completed the basic recruit academy in Florida and the state examination or be certified in Florida to apply.

  5. When are applications accepted for vacant positions?

  6. The Division of Law Enforcement continually accepts applications for the position of Law Enforcement Officer.  Once a vacancy is identified, individuals who have submitted completed applications will be contacted for assessment.  Vacancies for Environmental Special Agent are posted on the PeopleFirst website.

  7. What is included in the benefits package for employees of the Department of Environmental Protection?
    • Tuition Waiver - The State of Florida encourages continuing education by paying for college courses at state universities or community colleges.
    • Paid overtime, annual leave, sick leave, and a personal holiday.

    • Salary incentives for those law enforcement officers who possess a degree or have completed state-approved Salary Incentive Courses.
  8. What equipment is issued to law enforcement officers and agents?
    • All uniforms, leather and nylon duty gear, weapons, first aid equipment, law books and much more is provided by the department.
    • Police bicycles, all-terrain vehicles, boats, and fully equipped emergency vehicles are assigned to uniformed members.  Equipment is issued based on the requirements of the assigned patrol area.
  9. Will DEP hire non-certified applicants and provide sponsorship to academies?

  10. At this time, DEP does not hire non-certified applicants or pay for tuition to local academies.  However, we routinely recruit new officers from police academies prior to graduation.

  11. Who can tell me where the vacancies are at this time?

  13. What jurisdiction do law enforcement officers and investigators have with the FDEP?

  14. Officers and investigators in the Division of Law Enforcement are sworn state law enforcement officers with full powers of arrest. In addition, the Division of Law Enforcement is capable of providing assistance in both natural and man-made disasters and is on call 24 hours a day to respond in the event of hurricanes, civil disorder, or other threatening conditions that may endanger life or property.
