STATE EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER, TALLAHASSEE –The most effective way to help Hurricane Dennis disaster victims is to make a financial contribution to the charity of your choice. Volunteer Florida has posted a list of organizations assisting the disaster relief efforts on their Website,
www.volunteerflorida.org. Individuals may also contact the Florida Volunteer and Donations hotline at 1-800-FL-HELP-1(1-800-354-3571) between the hours of 8 a.m. EST through 8 p.m. EST.
Cash donations help organizations avoid the labor and expense of sorting, packing, transporting and distributing donated goods, and voluntary relief agencies can use cash to meet hurricane victims’ specific needs more quickly.
As response and recovery efforts begin, Volunteer Florida, the Governor’s Commission on Volunteerism & Community Service, is working closely with relief organizations to coordinate the activities of response agencies.
The Governor’s Commission on Volunteerism & Community Service was established in 1994 by the Florida Legislature to administer grants under the National and Community Service Trust Act of 1993. The Commission grants funds to Florida AmeriCorps and National Service programs; encourages volunteerism for everyone from youths to seniors to people with disabilities; promotes volunteerism in emergency management and preparedness; and helps to strengthen and expand Volunteer Centers in Florida.
Following is a list if several relief organizations currently serving the victims of Hurricane Dennis and accepting donations:
