DCF Disaster Food Stamp Program Update -
July 26, 2005
As of today, the Department of Children and Families (DCF)
has approved a total of $10.3 million in Disaster Food Stamp
(DFS) benefits for victims of Hurricane Dennis.
In response to Dennis, the Department, in partnership
with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, launched a DFS
Program in Escambia, Okaloosa and Santa Rosa counties and
accepted applications for the program last week. To date the
Department has approved applications from 26,527 families
and 81,571 individuals to receive benefits. More approvals
are pending.
A breakdown on the number of families and individuals to
receive benefits, and benefit amounts is as follows:

Individuals determined to be eligible for the program
this week will receive Electronic Benefit Transfer cards,
similar to ATM cards, that can be used at USDA-approved food
retailers.
