Florida's SERT Urges Out-of-State Residents Not to Travel Home Until Local Officials Announce it is Safe to Return
Florida’s State Emergency Response Team urges
residents from Mississippi and Louisiana – that have
sought shelter in Florida – to remain in place while
emergency response teams from across the nation work to
stabilize the Gulf Coast areas impacted by Hurricane
Katrina.
"Areas from Interstate 10 southward to the coast are
very hazardous at this time," said Director Craig Fugate
of the Florida Division of Emergency Management. "Many
areas are still underwater, and first responders are
conducting search and rescue operations across the
region. If you are in a safe place, please stay and do
not attempt to return home until local officials have
given the OK to do so."
