Waste Management Program Profile
Vision: To assure Floridians that their
health and their environment are being protected through prevention and
reduction of pollution and the proper management of waste and hazardous
substances.
Mission: To protect public health and the environment through
promotion of waste management practices that prevent or reduce waste generation,
ensure proper management when waste generation cannot be prevented, prevent
discharges of chemicals and petroleum products contained in storage tank
systems, and ensure adequate and timely cleanup of the environment from
contamination caused by discharges of hazardous substances and petroleum
products. Most of the people in waste management are specialists in a scientific
or engineering field, such as geology, chemistry, biology, civil engineering,
environmental engineering or chemical engineering.
