The LIFE St. Sebastian River Preserve State Park
Program is a partnership between the Department of Environmental
Protection and
Sebastian River Middle School
in Indian River County. The Program targets both sixth and eighth grade
students. Each grade has four separate field experiences, one every nine
weeks. Each field experience involves a number of distinct field labs
led by DEP staff, volunteers and participating teachers. The field labs
will address priority topics that have been identified by the
participating teachers and will use the unique natural resources and
ecosystems available at St. Sebastian River Preserve as examples to
illustrate important concepts and principles in Life and Environmental
Science. The sixth grade field experiences delve into such topics plant
and animal adaptations, while the eighth grade students learn about seed
dispersal mechanisms and plant reproduction strategies. |
