FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 27, 2001
Florida, Georgia, Alabama Expected To Extend ACF
Compact
TALLAHASSEE
– Florida
Department of Environmental Protection Secretary David B. Struhs
announced today that a representative for Florida will vote for a
45-day extension of the deadline for the
Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint (ACF) Rivers Compact at Monday’s
scheduled meeting of the ACF Commission.
An
extension would provide state advisors and stakeholders with time
to fine tune the draft of Florida’s proposal, which was released
May 25, 2001.
A 60-day
public comment period would precede formal adoption of any
proposal by the ACF Commission. A unanimous vote of the ACF
Commission is required before a proposal can be adopted by the ACF
Commission. The Federal Commissioner would then have 255 days to
review it for any violations of federal law.
