Public Participation Encouraged At Second Water Conservation Initiative
Workshop
TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection, in
cooperation with the state's five Water Management Districts, the
Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the Public Service
Commission, is holding the second Water Conservation Initiative public
workshop in West Palm Beach on August 15. The public is invited to share
ideas on increasing water-use efficiency. The first workshop, held two
months ago in Orlando, was highly successful with about 300
participants.
As part of the state’s Drought Action Plan, the primary goal of the
workshop is to continue gathering public input for a November 1, 2001
draft report. The mission is to enable Florida to use less water while
achieving the same benefits.
Participation is encouraged from the public, all water use sectors and
other interested parties including, but not limited to: public and
private water suppliers, agriculture, commercial users, industry,
developers, commercial landscaping and grounds maintenance companies,
golf course and hotel managers, environmental groups, local and state
governments and agencies.
Participants can join one or more of the six work groups that were
formed at the first workshop -- Non-agricultural Irrigation; Indoor
Water Use and Water Features; Agriculture; Industrial, Commercial and
Institutional; Water Pricing to Promote Conservation; and Water Reuse.
