Stephen Foster State Park Hosts One Day Of Three-Day Florida Harvest Music Fest

- Donations go to United Way’s September 11th Fund --

TALLAHASSEE—A seven-hour music festival featuring regional bands, playing continuously from noon until 7 p.m., will be held at the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in White Springs on Saturday, September 22, 2001.

Saturday’s event is free and open to the public, however, donations will go to United Way’s September 11th Fund to assist with the expenses and needs associated with the tragedies that occurred in our Nation last Tuesday.

The three-day music fest is a partnership between the Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Recreation and Parks, Gama Productions of Gainesville and Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak.

Gama Productions will donate a portion of their proceeds to the New York City Firefighters, Emergency Medical Service and Police Relief efforts; Suwannee Music Park is donating a portion of their gate revenue; and one-third of the $18.00 cost for Sunday’s 22-mile canoe trip from Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center to Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park will also be donated.

The festival begins on Friday at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak with music, camping and performing arts and continues through Sunday. On Saturday, from noon to 7 p.m., shuttles will provide attendees hourly transportation to and from the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in White Springs.

"We are honored to be a part of the fund-raising efforts for those affected in last week’s tragedy," said Wendy Spencer, Director of DEP’s 155-unit state park system. "We are grateful to be partnering with the Suwannee Music Park and Gama Productions for this important occasion. I hope visitors will take some time to appreciate life, family and friends, and enjoy the beauty around them as they visit the park and the beautiful new Nature & Heritage Tourism Center."

The Center provides visitors an opportunity to learn about, and make reservations for, nature-based and heritage travel in the Sunshine State.

Some of the musical acts that are scheduled to perform over the three-day music fest include:

Blues Traveler, Medeski Martin & Wood, Ratdog, Seven Mary Three, G-Love & Special Sauce, Galactic, Original P Parliament, Funkadelic, Blueground Undergrass, Steel Pulse, Little Feat, Lemon Juice, Tiffany Lee and many more.
