DEP Sponsors Site Certification Hearing

On December 4, 2001, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection will sponsor a power plant site certification hearing to be conducted by the Division of Administrative Hearings. The hearing will be held at the Grace Baptist Church, 479 North Center Street, Baldwin, Florida, commencing at 9:00 a.m.

Pursuant to the Florida Electrical Power Plant Siting Act, the Department of Environmental Protection is recommending approval of JEA’s conversion of two natural gas fired units at the Brandy Branch Generating Station to operate in a combined cycle mode. Under this approval the JEA will operate a 812 MW (nominal) facility consisting of two natural gas-fired Combined Cycle Units No. 2 and No. 3, and one simple cycle Unit 1 and ancillary equipment. These units are located on a 153-acre site located approximately one mile northeast of Baldwin in western Duval County.
