DEP Division of Law Enforcement to Participate in Emergency Response Exercise in Tampa

TALLAHASSEE - Personnel from DEP’s Division of Law Enforcement Bureau of Emergency Response will be one of 10 agencies to participate in the 2002 Preparedness for Response Exercise Program (PREP). The exercise is being coordinated by SeaRiver Maritime, a U.S. flag shipping company that operates tank vessels and barges bringing petroleum products and petro chemicals into Tampa Bay.

The scenario for this exercise will involve a simulated major release of one or more of these products somewhere into Tampa Bay. The objective of the drill is to test the ability of SeaRiver as the Responsible Party and the response community to deal with such an event, form a Unified Command and a response organization using an Incident Command System (ICS) structure, and effectively utilize the Area Contingency Plan (ACP). The goal of the exercise is to produce a usable Incident Action Plan. The oil spill exercise will be held in Tampa on 24-27 September.

There will be a media opportunity:

 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Wednesday, September 25, 2002
Wyndham Harbour Island Hotel
725 S. Harbour Island Blvd.
(813) 229-5000
