Former Auto Repair Shop Owner Arrested
For Felony Violation
DAYTONA BEACH – Department of Environmental
Protection (DEP) law enforcement agents today arrested Russell
Kevin Oglesby of Volusia County for violating Florida’s
environmental law. Oglesby, age 44, former owner of the Master
Craft automotive repair shop in Daytona Beach, was arrested and
charged with a third degree felony violation for commercial
littering.
A cooperative investigation by the DEP, Volusia County Code
Enforcement and the Office of the State Attorney for the Seventh
Judicial Circuit led to today’s arrest.
The Volusia County Code Enforcement initially uncovered solid
and hazardous waste violations during inspections at Oglesby’s
former business. After a County-initiated clean up of the
property uncovered additional evidence of buried hazardous
waste, DEP law enforcement agents became involved.
Forensic samples taken at the site revealed illegal levels of
soil contamination caused by buried automotive parts, drums and
batteries. Additionally, large volumes of solid waste, including
auto parts and tires, were stored illegally at the property.
Oglesby was booked into the Volusia County jail, with bond
set at $500. An arraignment date has not been set. If convicted,
Oglesby could face up to five years in jail and a $5,000 fine.
