DEP Recognizes Naples Boat
Club as 'Clean Marina'

FORT MYERS-
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP),
together with the Clean Boating Partnership, today recognized
Naples Boat Club as the State’s 73rd Clean Marina.
“Clean water is vital to Florida’s environment and economy,
and Clean Marinas like Naples Boat Club set a commendable
example,” said Laura Comer, Clean Marina Coordinator for
DEP’s South District. “This designation provides customers
with a recognizable, environmentally sound choice for their
boating needs.”
Achieving ‘Clean Marina’ designation has been a focus for
Naples Boat Club since its inception. The developer, Boat
Clubs America, embraced the Clean Marina Program before
construction began. Upon opening the facility, the management
team implemented ‘Clean Marina’ best management practices,
which prevent pollution and protect Florida’s waterways. Now
owned by the boaters, Naples Boat Club provides the support
and cooperation needed to maintain designation.
“We are proud to operate a ‘Clean Marina’ and sincerely thank
DEP for working with us to achieve this designation,” said
Frank Donahue, Naples Boat Club Operations Manager.
Over 2,000 marinas currently provide services to thousands of
boaters using state waters daily. The effects of year-round
boating activities contribute to constant and growing
pressure on Florida’s sensitive aquatic and marine
ecosystems. In response, the Clean Boating Partnership, which
includes the Department of Environmental Protection, Marine
Industries Association of Florida, Florida Sea Grant Program,
United States Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary,
developed the Clean Marina Program to help marinas, boatyards
and boaters protect Florida’s waterways using simple
environmental practices that prevent pollution.
Florida’s Clean Marinas go above and beyond required
environmental regulations by adopting safeguards that keep
solvents, sewage, fuel and oil out of the water, while
protecting manatees and other marine creatures. By educating
boaters and improving operations at marine facilities,
Florida’s Clean Marinas are helping to ensure a sustainable
future for the environment, for boaters and for the
billion-dollar marine industry.
