BONITA SPRINGS- The Florida Department of
Environmental Protection (DEP) today honored the
Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa in Bonita
Springs for achieving Two Palm Certification status
as a Florida Green Lodge, the first lodging
facility in the State to receive this level of
certification. The Two Palm designation certifies
that the facility has increased its energy
conservation and pollution prevention measures since
its One Palm certification.
“As the first Two Palm hotel in Florida, the
Hyatt has become an established leader in its
industry,” said DEP South District Director Jon
Iglehart. “The hotel’s commitment to environmental
standards serves as an example and challenge to
other industry leaders to preserve Florida’s natural
resources and conserve energy.”
Since its initial certification in March 2004,
the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa has
reduced its water consumption by 28 percent, energy
usage by almost two percent and minimized waste
disposal by almost three percent. The resort
utilizes a linen reuse program and energy efficient
laundry facility, and invested in the latest
technologies for ice storage and air controls, heat
recovery systems and energy management meters.
Launched in March 2004, the Florida Green Lodging
Certification Program establishes environmental
guidelines for hotels and motels to conserve natural
resources and prevent pollution. As reward for
designation, Florida is recommending Green Lodges to
companies and trade organizations seeking
environmentally-conscious lodging and convention
facilities. The Green Lodging program has 13 hotels
certified, with 14 in the process of becoming
certified.
