SARASOTA - The Department of Environmental
Protection (DEP) today welcomed the Holiday Inn
Lakewood Ranch to the Florida Green Lodging
Program. The lodging facility is the first Holiday
Inn in Florida to participate in the voluntary state
initiative.
“Green Lodges help protect Florida’s
environment,” said DEP Southwest District Director
Deborah Getzoff. “The Holiday Inn Lakewood Ranch’s
dedication to protecting the State’s natural
resources through conservation initiatives sets an
example for other lodging industry leaders in
Florida.”
The Holiday Inn Lakewood Ranch uses water
efficient bathroom amenities as well as towel and
linen reuse programs to conserve water. The lodging
facility also conserves energy through the use of
ENERGY STAR™ appliances, fluorescent lighting, and
sensored indoor and outdoor lighting. Indoor air
quality is improved through scheduled air filter
changes and routine cleaning of the air handlers and
coils in the air conditioner units. Also, the
Holiday Inn Lakewood Ranch recycles and purchases in
bulk as well as purchases recycled paper products.
Launched in March 2004, the Florida Green Lodging
Certification Program establishes environmental
guidelines for hotels and motels to conserve natural
resources and prevent pollution. As reward for
designation, Florida is recommending Green Lodges to
companies and trade organizations seeking
environmentally-conscious lodging and convention
facilities. With the addition of the Holiday Inn
Lakewood Ranch, the program has 13 hotels certified,
with 14 in the process of becoming certified.
