CRAWFORDVILLE - The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) today
welcomed The Inn at Wildwood to the Florida Green Lodging Program. The
voluntary state initiative provides the lodging industry with technical
assistance, encouraging hotels and motels to adopt cost-saving ‘green’
practices that reduce waste and conserve natural resources.
“As leaders in their industry, Green Lodges serve as an example and a
challenge to other hotels to adopt innovative green practices, conserve
resources and save money,” said DEP Secretary Colleen Castille. “Their
dedication to increased environmental commitment protects Florida’s natural
resources for citizens, wildlife and ecosystems.”
The Inn at Wildwood, a nature based lodge, is the second lodge in Wakulla
County to become certified in the Florida Green Lodging Program.
Environmentally-friendly features at the facility include ENERGY STAR™
appliances and equipment, low flow water fixtures, towel and linen reuse
programs, soap dispensers in showers, using excess water for plants, high
efficiency lighting, environmentally friendly cleaners and trash reduction
measures.
Launched in March 2004, the Florida Green Lodging Certification Program
establishes environmental guidelines for hotels and motels to conserve
natural resources and prevent pollution. As reward for designation, Florida
is recommending Green Lodges to companies and trade organizations seeking
environmentally-conscious lodging and convention facilities. With the
addition of The Inn at Wildwood, the program has 14 hotels certified, with
13 in the process of becoming certified.
