TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection
(DEP) is sponsoring a workshop on the Florida Green Lodging program on July
26. The workshop will discuss topics such as indoor air quality, water
conservation, energy efficiency, waste reduction and how to be certified as
a Florida Green Lodge.
“Education is the first step toward active environmental protection,”
said DEP Secretary Colleen M. Castille. “Green Lodging workshops provide the
necessary information and assistance to encourage the lodging industry to
implement environmentally-friendly measures to protect Florida’s natural
resources.”
The free workshop will take place from 9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Four
Seasons Hotel Miami, a Green Lodging participant. The workshop is hosted by
the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau and sponsored by DEP, City
of Miami Beach Environmental Resources Division, the Miami-Dade Water and
Sewer Department and the Four Seasons Hotel Miami.
Lodging industry leaders, managers, engineers and hotel staff are
encouraged to attend to learn how to save money on water, waste and energy
bills, and tour the ‘green’ aspects of the Four Seasons Hotel Miami.
Registration for the workshop is available online.
Launched in March 2004, the Florida Green Lodging Certification Program
establishes environmental guidelines for hotels and motels to conserve
natural resources and prevent pollution. As reward for designation, Florida
is recommending Green Lodges to companies and trade organizations seeking
environmentally-conscious lodging and convention facilities.
