TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Park Service recently
announced the appointment of Roy Kimbell as the Citizen
Support Organization (CSO) Ambassador. Kimbell will
complete the term of his wife, former CSO Ambassador
Elsa Kimbell, who recently passed away.
“The Kimball family has supported Florida State Parks
for more than two decades,” said Mike Bullock, Florida
State Parks Director. “Roy’s commitment to the park
service and leadership experience will expand current
outreach efforts and strengthen initiatives between the
parks and the public.”
Mr. Kimball is a retired Pratt & Witney engineer and
current instructor for the Aviation Department for Palm
Beach Community College. He serves on the Board of
Directors for the Friends of Jonathan Dickinson State
Parks Inc. and volunteers to update records and assist
at events on a regular basis.
The CSO Ambassador coordinates the Friends of Florida
State Parks statewide. Each park’s Friends group
sponsors events, develops informative publications and
secures private park funding. The ambassador serves as a
liaison between the organizations and the state by
providing opportunities for communication, mentoring,
education and park support.
Florida’s state park system is one of the largest in
the country with 159 parks spanning more than 725,000
acres and more than 100 miles of sandy white beach. From
swimming and diving in rivers and springs to birding and
fishing or hiking and riding on natural scenic trails,
Florida’s state parks offer year-around outdoor
activities for all ages. Battle reenactments and Native
American festivals celebrate Florida’s unique history,
while art shows, museums and lighthouses offer a window
into Florida’s cultural heritage.
