State Recognizes Sadler Point Marina as ‘Clean Marina’ and ‘Clean Boatyard’

-- Jacksonville marina offers environmentally-friendly services --

JACKSONVILLE – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), together with the Clean Boating Partnership, today recognized Sadler Point Marina as both a Clean Marina and a Clean Boatyard. The marina will be the 16th Clean Marina and the 5th Clean Boatyard in DEP’s Northeast District.

“Floridians are never more than 75 miles away from water, which is why it is so important to protect our marine resources,” said DEP Northeast District Director Greg Strong. “By participating in the Clean Marina and Clean Boating programs, Sadler Point Marina is taking the initiative to protect the state’s waterways for residents and visitors.”

To receive Clean Marina and Clean Boatyard designations, Sadler Point Marina installed a wastewater recycling system for its pressure washing area and established a collection system for stormwater runoff. The facility also provides an enclosed area for painting and crushes oil filters for environmentally-friendly disposal. The marina’s efforts will protect both the Ortega and Cedar Rivers.

"DEP and the Clean Boating Partnership are pleased to recognize Sadler Point Marina with the dual designation of becoming a Clean Marina and a Clean Boatyard,” said DEP Division of Law Enforcement Assistant Director Maury Kolchakian. "Sadler Point should be proud of their achievement and the example of environmental stewardship they are setting for marine facilities throughout the state."

With more than one million registered motorized vessels in Florida, environmental education within marine industries is the first step towards safeguarding the state’s natural resources. In response, the Clean Boating Partnership developed the Clean Marina, Clean Boatyard, Clean Retailer and Clean Boater Programs to protect Florida’s waterways.

“Today’s designation places us among a list of facilities concerned about environmental issues and we want to do our part as an active member in the marine industry to create a safe and pleasant environment for all who use the water ways,” said Brooks Busey, Owner/Manager of Sadler Point Marina. “We are proud to be a part of such an environmentally-conscious program.”

"We congratulate Sadler Point for their dedication to clean water and their achievement in earning the Clean Marina designation," said Co-Chair of the Clean Boating Partnership Stephen Bogner. "Their commitment to Florida's environment is to be commended and we welcome them to the Clean Marina Program.”

The Clean Boating Partnership includes the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, marina and boatyard owners and operators, Marine Industries Association of Florida, Florida Sea Grant Program and United States Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary. By providing ‘green’ education and alternatives, the Clean Boating Partnership helps ensure a sustainable future for the environment and the billion-dollar marine industry.
