State Welcomes Three Loggerhead Facilities Into Clean Marina Program

--Environmental sustainability a top priority for South Florida marinas --

WEST PALM BEACH – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), together with the Clean Boating Partnership, today recognized three Loggerhead marinas in Lantana, Riviera Beach and Hollywood as certified Clean Marinas.

“With more than 2,000 marinas in Florida, ecological practices play a large role in protecting our waterways,” said DEP Southeast District Director Kevin Neal. “The Loggerhead marinas have made the environment a part of their business plan, an initiative that sets an example for clientele and staff while protecting the state’s natural resources.”

All nine Loggerhead marinas, spanning from Miami to Vero Beach, are either certified as Clean Marinas or in the process of becoming certified. To receive the Clean Marina designation, the new Loggerhead facilities in Lantana, Riviera Beach and Hollywood met all Marina Environmental Measures established by the Clean Boating Partnership. The marinas offer environmental emergency training for staff and established a hazardous spill protection plan as a part of the initiative.

“DEP and the Clean Boating Partnership are pleased to recognize the Loggerhead facilities as our newest Clean Marinas,” said DEP Division of Law Enforcement Assistant Director Maury Kolchakian. “The Loggerhead team should be proud of their achievement and the example of environmental stewardship they are setting for marine facilities throughout the state.”

With more than one million registered motorized vessels in Florida, environmental education within marine industries is the first step towards safeguarding the state’s natural resources. In response, the Clean Boating Partnership developed the Clean Marina, Clean Boatyard, Clean Retailer and Clean Boater Programs to protect Florida’s waterways.

“Loggerhead is thrilled to add these three facilities into Florida’s Clean Marina program,” said Raymond Graziotto, president of Loggerhead’s parent company, Seven Kings Holdings. “We are proud to fly the Clean Marina flag over six of our facilities and 1,200 boat slips throughout South Florida and the Treasure Coast.”

“We congratulate Loggerhead for their dedication to clean water and their achievement in earning the Clean Marina designation,” said Stephen Bogner, Co-Chair of the Clean Boating Partnership. “Their commitment to Florida's environment is to be commended and we welcome these facilities to the Clean Marina family.”

The Clean Boating Partnership includes the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, marina and boatyard owners and operators, Marine Industries Association of Florida, Florida Sea Grant Program and United States Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary. By providing ‘green’ education and alternatives, the Clean Boating Partnership helps ensure a sustainable future for the environment and the billion-dollar marine industry.
