MARATHON – The Florida Department of
Environmental Protection (DEP), together with the Clean
Boating Partnership, today recognized Lookout Lodge
Resort as Monroe County’s 14th Clean Marina.
“Lookout Lodge is an environmental leader among
Florida’s more than 2,000 marinas,” said DEP South
District Director Jon Iglehart. “Its commitment protects
the Florida Keys ecosystem, including the world largest
living coral reef.”
To receive the Clean Marina designation, the resort
met all Marina Environmental Measures established by the
Clean Boating Partnership. In addition, the facility
reinforces the value of environmental protection by
informing boaters of ‘green’ practices.
“We feel it is part of our family’s obligation to our
community to set an example here in Islamorada,” said
Lookout Lodge Resort President and active U.S. Coast
Guard Auxiliary member Don Zinner. “We are very proud to
be the first hotel/marina in Monroe County to receive
this designation, as it reflects well on the Hotel
Industry, the Village of Islamorada, Monroe County and
The USCG Auxiliary.”
"DEP and the Clean Boating Partnership are pleased to
recognize Lookout Lodge Resort with the Clean Marina
designation,” said DEP Division of Law Enforcement
Assistant Director Maury Kolchakian. "As a small,
family-run business, Lookout Lodge should be very proud
of its achievement and the example of environmental
stewardship they are setting for similar marine
facilities throughout Florida."
With more than one million registered motorized
vessels in Florida, environmental education within
marine industries is the first step towards safeguarding
the state’s natural resources. In response, the Clean
Boating Partnership developed the Clean Marina,
Clean
Boatyard, Clean Retailer and Clean Boater Programs to
protect Florida’s waterways.
The Clean Boating Partnership includes DEP, marina
and boatyard owners and operators, Marine Industries
Association of Florida, Florida Sea Grant Program, and
United States Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary. By
providing ‘green’ education and alternatives, the Clean
Boating Partnership helps ensure a sustainable future
for the environment and the billion-dollar marine
industry.
"Our congratulations go out to Lookout Lodge Resort
Marina for its hard work and dedication to clean water,”
said Co-Chair of the Clean Boating Partnership Stephen Bogner. "Its achievement in earning the
Clean Marina
Designation requires a commitment to Florida's
environment that is to be commended. Welcome, Lookout
Lodge, to the Clean Marina family!”
