JACKSONVILLE – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) today
recognized the environmental achievements of Rusty Acres Automotive, a
Jacksonville auto reclamation center, by designating the facility as a Florida
Green Yard. Rusty Acres is the first facility in DEP’s Northeast District and
one of only 12 facilities in the state to complete the program designed to help
protect Florida’s environment.
“The Green Yards Program is a win-win for the business and the environment,”
said DEP Northeast District Assistant Director Bill Green. “By becoming the
Northeast District’s first, Rusty Acres Automotive is a leader within their
industry and the Northeast Florida community.”
Rusty Acres, which specializes in the recycling of Ford, Lincoln and Mercury
auto parts, received the designation by going through an extensive investigative
and compliance program. The company had to demonstrate the prevention of
pollution by proving environmental compliance with more than 35 best management
practices, ranging from proper container labeling to stormwater management.
The company has previously been recognized as a Gold Seal Recycler, which was
awarded for meeting and exceeding the requirements governing general business
practices, adhering to current environmental standards for waste handling and
meeting safety standards for employees.
Bob Eubanks, owner of Rusty Acres, is known as a leader in the industry,
serving as president of the Florida Auto Dismantlers & Recyclers Association.
“It’s critical that all businesses take responsibility in the protection of
their employees, their community and the environment,” Eubanks said. “We’re
proud to receive this designation and we challenge all businesses to meet and
exceed environmental regulations.”
In an industry known for environmental challenges, the Florida Green Yards
Program helps automotive recyclers understand and comply with environmental
regulations. Automotive recyclers that achieve the Green Yards designation
prevent pollution by demonstrating environmental compliance with more than 35
best management practices ranging from proper container labeling to stormwater
management.
