DEP Agents Arrest Two for Felony Dumping

-Two Orange County residents arrested for illegally dumping a stripped pleasure boat-

ORANGE COUNTY – Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) agents on June 26 arrested two Orange County residents for dumping a stripped pleasure boat in a wooded area owned by the City of Orlando, which was set on fire. Troy Bullington Jr. and Thomas Tritch were both charged with felony dumping of greater than 500 pounds, a third degree felony, punishable by up to five years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $5,000.

“With help from the Orlando Fire Department Bomb and Arson Unit, DEP agents were able to arrest Bullington Jr. and Tritch on environmental charges,” said DEP Division of Law Enforcement Director Henry Barnet. “Felony dumping of this kind is hazardous to the environment and will not be tolerated.”

The Orlando Fire Department Bomb and Arson Unit responded to visible smoke rising over a wooded area in the city of Orlando and found an abandoned boat that had been set on fire. The boat was registered to Troy Bullington Sr., the suspect’s father, who said that he had given the boat to his son without the engine two years prior. DEP special agents were alerted and arrested Bullington Jr. and Tritch for felony dumping. Improper disposal of large debris could potentially harm Florida’s environment.

DEP’s Division of Law Enforcement is responsible for statewide environmental resource law enforcement, providing law enforcement services to Florida’s state parks and greenways and trails. Agents investigate environmental resource crimes and illegal dredge and fill activities, and respond to natural disasters, civil unrest, hazardous material incidents and oil spills that can threaten the environment.

To report environmental crime, wireless customers can now dial #DEP. Callers can also report environmental crimes to the State Warning Point by calling (877) 2-SAVE-FL (1.877.272.8335). General environmental inquiries should be directed to DEP district offices during business hours.
