Florida's Environment 2007 - Department of Environmental Protection

2007 Review

More Protection, Less Process

December 30, 2007

On December 21, 2006, Governor Charlie Crist named Michael W. Sole as Secretary of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. In 2007, under their leadership Florida made great strides in preparing the state to become less dependent on foreign oil supplies, promoting cleaner and greener industries, continuing the restoration of America’s Everglades and showcasing public lands that continue to promote the ecotourism industry.

Florida’s population is currently ranked the fourth largest in the nation. By 2030, Florida is predicted to become the third largest state -- surpassing New York’s projected population by more than nine million people. As the state continues to grow, Florida is exploring new technologies, preserving thousands of acres of lands and firmly yet fairly enforcing environmental regulations to ensure future generations will be able to enjoy the natural resources that make the state unique.
