The Southeast District (SED) Air Program is responsible
for protecting, conserving and restoring the air resources for
Okeechobee, St. Lucie, Martin, Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade
counties. Our District, as well as the rest of Florida, is
currently meeting all federal and state standards for air quality.
Constant vigilance is needed, however, to maintain our status as we face
a growing population.
Air quality is of utmost importance, and because our air
quality in Florida is good, we tend to take it for granted.
The average person breathes 25,000 times a day without thinking about
it. You can live for weeks without food and days without water,
but only five minutes without air. We all need to do our part to
protect our air quality.
The SED Air Resources Management Program accomplishes its mission by
implementing the federal Clean Air Act and enforcing Florida
statutes and rules. We also monitor the District's air quality,
administer Florida's air pollution control programs, promote
Pollution
Prevention and coordinate our work with the efforts of other local,
state and federal programs. Local programs in Palm Beach, Broward
and Miami-Dade counties assist us.
