Outreach and Education

Through environmental education and outreach, the SED seeks to increase public awareness, understanding and an appreciation of Florida's environment.  If you are looking for a speaker on environmental topics, would like the FDEP Southeast District to have a booth at your event or need brochures and publications for environmental education, please contact the SED's Outreach Coordinator, Cristina Llorens, at (561) 681-6605 or via e-mail at Cristina.Llorens@dep.state.fl.us.

Clean Boating/Marina Program

The Clean Boating Partnership, a public/private effort, is a liaison between the State of Florida and the marine industry. With thousands of marine facilities and 1,000,000 registered vessels in Florida, environmental education within the boating community is crucial to safeguarding the state’s natural resources. The Partnership has developed four specific programs to encourage environmentally-friendly practices, beyond regulatory requirements, in and around Florida’s waterways.

Bill Richards is the SED Clean Marina Coordinator.  He can be reached at (561) 681-6681 or via e-mail at William.R.Richards@dep.state.fl.us.

Pollution Prevention Program

The Pollution Prevention Program for the Department was authorized by the Pollution Prevention Act of 1991. Prior to the creation of the new positions in the District offices during the 1998 legislative session, the program was administered by the Division of Waste Management in Tallahassee.

The Pollution Prevention Section in the SED works with Division staff in Tallahassee to increase the use of multimedia pollution prevention (P2) as the preferred method of reducing pollution from industrial processes. The program provides information and assistance to meet this goal in the form of non-regulatory site visits and technical literature.

Public Records/Freedom of Information Act Requests

All public records requests should be directed to Ms. Hafeeza Kahn either via e-mail to Hafeeza.Khan@dep.state.fl.us or in writing and faxed to Ms. Khan's attention at (561) 681-6755.
