Map and Directions to the Southeast District
Office
The Southeast District of the Florida Department of Environmental
Protection covers
six counties, including, Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin,
St. Lucie, and Okeechobee. The geographical area includes portions of
the Indian River Lagoon, the nation’s most diverse estuary;
Loxahatchee River, the state’s only National Wild and Scenic River;
one of the nation’s largest freshwater lakes, Lake Okeechobee; and
the unique and beautiful Everglades System, including Florida Bay and
the Kissimmee River. In addition to these extraordinary natural
systems, Southeast Florida contains approximately one-third of
Florida’s total population, with more than 5 million residents.
Increasing population, urbanization and industrialization continue to
place great stresses on our natural resources. We are committed to the
protection of our extraordinary natural resources, and we strive to
strike a balance between that commitment and responsible economic
development.
Port St. Lucie Branch Office Programs
The Port St.
Lucie Branch Office functions as an important public service
by providing local
community access to staff that represent several of the
Southeast District’s regulatory programs. The main focus of
the office is compliance and enforcement in the northern
three counties: Martin, Saint Lucie, and Okeechobee. Staff
is involved in Administration, Air Resources, Environmental
Resources Permitting, Water Facilities, and Water Quality
Monitoring.
The Port St. Lucie Branch Office also
oversees the Okeechobee Field
Office. Please click the link to visit the OFO Web

Administration: The
administrative staff, in the Port Saint Lucie office are
involved in the every day operation of the office. They
manage the filing system and support the staff as needed
through all administrative services. Within this section
you will find links to forms, applications, and statutes
that staff frequently use and refer to.
Water Facilities Management:
The Water Facilities Management staff is responsible for compliance and
enforcement for Domestic Waste Industrial Waste and Potable
water regulated facilities in Martin Okeechobee and St Lucie
Counties. In addition staff investigates complaints and
assists the District Permitting staff in Permit renewals.
Environmental Resources Program:
The Environmental Resources Program (ERP) addresses
dredging, filling, and construction in wetlands and other
surface water, as well as stormwater and surface water
management systems in uplands. The program is designed
to ensure that activities in uplands, wetlands and other
surface waters do not degrade water quality or degrade
habitat for aquatic or wetland dependent wildlife.
Water Quality Monitoring:
The water quality monitoring program for the southeast
district is housed here in Port Saint Lucie. The primary
goal of the section is to gather and monitor the data
associated with the surface water total maximum daily load (TMDLs)
program.
Air Resources Management:
The Southeast
District (SED) Air Program is responsible for protecting,
conserving and restoring the air resources for Okeechobee,
St. Lucie, Martin, Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade
counties. Our district, as well as the rest of Florida, is
currently meeting all federal and state standards for air
quality. Constant vigilance is needed, however, to maintain
our status as we face a growing population.
