The Southwest District (SWD) Air Resource Management administers the State of Florida’s ambient air pollution control programs, implements the Federal Clean Air Act
and State of Florida statutes in 11 counties (Citrus, DeSoto, Hardee, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota, and Sumter plus the portion of Marion County
west of I-75).
The goal is to attain and maintain the National Ambient Air Quality standards (NAAQS) while ensuring that economic growth will occur
in a manner consistent with the preservation of natural resources.
To ensure compliance with the NAAQS, the SWD Air Program controls air emissions and monitors air quality through the following programs:
