There are ongoing efforts by governmental, non-governmental and private sector organizations to develop a nationwide system in the U. S. for collecting and recycling electronics products. Individual state governments and regional organizations are investigating and pursuing various ways to build sustainable electronics recycling programs and infrastructure including legislation that mandates recycling in various systems. In light of state legislative initiatives (proposed and enacted) and the 2001-2005 National Electronics Product Stewardship Initiative (NEPSI), the U.S. Congress has proposed several bills and continues to hold congressional hearings on the creation of a national system to reduce the complexity of the developing state-by-state patchwork system. This page provides links to information on some of those efforts, particularly developments aiming for a national system. If your state or organization would like to be linked from this page, please contact us.
