Event: Florida K-12 Schools Recycling Pledge Card Contest
All Florida Schools are invited to participate in the Florida K-12 Schools Recycling Pledge Card Contest. This contest is designed to reward one class each at the elementary, middle and high school levels for collecting the greatest number of recycling pledge cards. The class with the most number of pledges at their level will receive a gently used desktop computer including monitor, courtesy of Creative Recycling Systems, Inc. The event will begin on October 9, 2007 and will end on November 21, 2007. It is being hosted by Recycle Florida Today and the Department of Environmental Protection.

The Pasco County Recycling Department, R.E.S.O.R.C.E. Recycling Club, Keep Pasco Beautiful and Covanta Energy will have exhibits, giveaways and brochures regarding how residents can make a commitment or recommit themselves to reduce, reuse and recycle. There will also be an opportunity to bring in some of your recyclables for collection.

To celebrate National Recycling Day on November 15, 2007, the Waste Reduction Committee and the Resource Recovery department are sponsoring a School Waste Reduction Ideas contest for all students. The focus of the contest is to foster an awareness of waste reduction and disposal. Assorted prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place students in the elementary, middle, and high school categories.

What’s happening: Come join in the festivities as Orange County celebrates a national day of recycling! There will be refreshments for the first 200 visitors, door prizes throughout the event, children’s games and activities and music. Visitors can take a guided tour of the landfill and the recycling facility. The day’s festivities will be rewarding for all attending the celebration, which will be held rain or shine.

Collier County will be doing a proclamation on the 13th of November with the Collier County Commissioners 9am.
They will also be displaying at their government complex on November 15, 2007 with free paper shredding, recycling information and an office item use and reuse exchange for county employees (will be collecting items that can't be used in one office and if you need you can have for your office).

What: "The America Recycles Day Poetry & T-Shirt Design Project"
The project involves students in Hillsborough County schools creating waste reduction/recycling-themed artwork and poetry. The winning poems and artwork are featured on a T-shirt (made from ECOSPUN and recycled cotton) and all participants receive one.
