- Hazardous Waste Management
This
section is responsible for promoting the recycling and proper
management of medications, used oil,
household hazardous waste,
mercury lamps and
devices, batteries and
small quantity generator hazardous waste;
registration and certification of hazardous waste,
used oil and
mercury lamp and device transporters; and analyzing and planning for
hazardous waste capacity assurance through biennial reporting and
other data collection. Grants and technical assistance are also
provided to local governments for the implementation of local
hazardous waste collection centers and small quantity generator
notification programs.
- Hazardous Waste Regulation
This section is responsible for the management of the statewide Hazardous
Waste program which includes interaction with USEPA, district offices
and other department programs pertaining to Hazardous Waste
compliance, enforcement and permitting. The section is also
responsible for the implementation of the federally delegated Resource
Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) program, which issues permits for
hazardous waste treatment, storage, and land disposal facilities.
- Solid Waste Management
This section is responsible for implementing Florida's Solid Waste
Program which includes coordination with the district offices
pertaining to permitting, compliance and enforcement activities. The
section also provides grants to local governments to help implement
their solid waste and recycling programs, and administers the
Financial Assurance Program and Full Cost Accounting for solid waste
facilities.
- Waste Reduction
This
section is responsible for monitoring and reporting on recycling and
waste reduction programs across the state. It manages the Recovered
Materials Dealers Certification program and the Construction and
Demolition Debris Facilities Reporting program. It provides pollution
prevention assistance to businesses and local governments in the form
of outreach, technical assistance, education, training, and regulatory
integration. It administers the Innovative Recycling and Waste
Reduction Grants Program and it coordinates the
Green Lodging program. [Note: during the third quarter of 2007, the Pollution Prevention program and the Green Lodging program will be moved from the Bureau of Solid and Hazardous Waste to the Office of Communications in the Secretary's Office.]
