In partnership with the USEPA and the affected federal facility, the section oversees assessment and remedial action for contamination sites at Florida’s Department of Defense (DOD) military bases, Kennedy Space Center (NASA), a former Department of Energy (DOE) plant in Pinellas County and several formerly used defense sites (FUDs). The section also oversees the Base Closure and Realignment process that closing military bases are required to perform in concert with the state and EPA to determine that transferring property is suitable from a human health and environmental aspect for its designated reuse.
