USEPA 2008 Public Water System Safe Drinking Water Act
Excellence Awards
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is
presenting the 2008 Public Water System Excellence
Awards. The awards are a perfect opportunity to showcase
drinking water
system’s commitment to compliance with the Safe Drinking Water
Act!
Awards were be presented for each of the following six categories:
- Small Surface Water Systems (serving 25-3,300 people),
- Small Ground Water Systems (serving 25-3,300 people),
- Medium Surface Water Systems (serving 3,300-10,000 people),
- Medium Ground Water Systems (serving 3,300-10,000 people),
- Large Surface Water Systems (serving >10,000 people), and
- Large Ground Water Systems (serving >10,000 people).
Application Process: Applications are available by contacting
your Department of Environmental Protection District Office, Approved
County Health Department (ACHD), the Florida Rural Water Association, or
the link below. Completed nomination packages are due to the appropriate
District Office or local regulatory office (approved county health
department) no later than Monday, June 9, 2008.
(All water system submittals are to be completed by the individual water
systems, not consulting engineers or private operations contractors.)
Selection Process: Each ACHD will review its nomination
packages and select one package per award category prior to forwarding
the selected packages to the appropriate DEP District Office. Each DEP
District Office will, in turn, review all nomination packages (both
those submitted directly to the District and those received from the
ACHDs), select one package per award category, and forward the selected
nominee packages to the Tallahassee office.
The Tallahassee office will make final statewide selections for each
award category and submit them the EPA, Region 4. Winning
facilities will be honored at a presentation ceremony.
