DEP Announces 2008 Plant Operations Excellence Awards

 

TALLAHASSEE -- The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Water Resource Management is currently accepting applications for its 2008 Plant Operations Excellence Awards for public water supply facilities and domestic wastewater facilities.

For public water supply facilities, the award categories within each DEP district are:

  • Small community water systems serving < 3,300 persons;
  • Medium community water systems serving 3,300 – 50,000 persons
  • Large community water systems serving > 50,000 persons
  • Non-Community water systems (includes both Transient and Non-Transient)

For domestic wastewater facilities, the award categories within each DEP district are:

  • Type I domestic wastewater facility
  • Type II domestic wastewater facility
  • Type III domestic wastewater facility

The Plant Operations Excellence Awards Program is one of the ways in which the DEP staff can recognize water and wastewater facilities that demonstrate excellence in operation, maintenance and compliance; innovative treatment; waste reduction and pollution prevention; recycling; and other special achievements.

Applications for awards may be obtained by contacting water and domestic wastewater programs at DEP districts, delegated domestic wastewater local programs, and DOH Approved County Health Department (ACHD) offices on the attached list. Applications are also available below. Completed application forms must first be submitted to the appropriate district, local program, or ACHD office no later than September 2, 2008.

2007 Plant Operations Excellence Awards

The Department's Division of Water Resource Management presented its 2007 Plant Operations Excellence Awards to public drinking water and domestic wastewater facilities from around the state at the annual awards ceremony held in Tallahassee on November 8, 2007. In the opening remarks, Division Director Janet G. Llewellyn thanked the facilities for the high standards of professionalism in their dedication to public health and the environment. The Drinking Water Awards were presented by Van R. Hoofnagle, P.E., Drinking Water Program Administrator. The Domestic Wastewater Awards were presented by Elsa Potts, P.E., Office of Wastewater Management Administrator.
