Agrichemical Effects – Pesticides and
Best Management Practices (BMPs)
BMP verification monitoring is conducted to measure adopted
fertilization and pesticide application best management practice's
ability to protect ground water. This monitoring is conducted after the
BMP has been demonstrated to work on a small scale and has been
implemented at an industry-wide scale. Monitoring is conducted on a
suite of agricultural sites that have been selected as representative of
the agricultural practice. Samples are collected quarterly for a period
ranging from three to five years to determine if the newly adopted
management practice will result in a widespread improvement throughout
the industry. The Ground Water Protection Section participates in
monthly meetings with the Florida Department of Agriculture to discuss
potential ground water impacts of newly registered pesticides.
