Proposed Rule Development for the Ground Water Rules, Chapters 62-520 and 62-522, F.A.C.

The Department has begun the rulemaking process to revise Florida’s ground water rules:

  • Chapter 62-520, Ground Water Classes, Standards and Exemptions, and
  • Chapter 62-522, Ground Water Permitting and Monitoring Requirements

No significant changes have been made to the ground water rule since the original rules were developed in 1983. This proposed revision will update and combine the rules into one rule, 62-520.

The proposed rule revision will consist of three stages:

  1. Transfer parts of 62-522 to 62-520 (completed).
  2. “Phase 1” – administrative changes and minor clarification, proposed for Secretarial adoption.
  3. “Phase 2” – more substantial, standard-setting changes proposed for Environmental Regulation Commission adoption. Work on this phase of the rule revisions will start after Phase I is complete.

This webpage will provide updates on the Department’s rulemaking efforts. All stakeholders and interested parties are encouraged to participate in the Department’s rulemaking efforts. Please check back to this website for updates.
