Dam Safety Program

Dam Safety in Florida is regulated through several rules, which vary by activity and location. The coordination of these regulations is through the Mining and Minerals Regulation, Technical Support Program. Stephen Partney, PE, currently serves as the State Representative to the Association of State Dam Safety Officials. He also acts in an advisory role regarding dam safety issues to other governmental entities in Florida, a role referred to as State Dam Safety Officer.

Current Florida Regulations Regarding Dam Safety:

Activity:

  • National Dam Inventory
  • If you wish to add a dam to the inventory, Contact Stan Inabinet for Dam Safety info.
  • Schedules: Seepage Class; State Conference; Tailings Dams Conference; National ASDSO Conference
  • Training: The Technical Support Section strives, within the limits of the available resources, to train government personnel (state and local) in current dam safety issues. To get more information, contact Arlene Acevedo.
  • FEMA Grants - The state of Florida receives an annual grant based on the number of dams meeting the federal definition of a dam. This is the source of monies used in the training effort. Learn more about the National Dam Safety Program.

Needs:
